Comparative Analysis of Public and Private Clients Organizational Culture for the Nigerian Construction Industry

Abstract

Although extensive research has been carried out on organizational culture and its performance. The studies pays much attention to the corporate culture due to its relationship with performance. Recent studies shows that culture of an organization has a lasting impact on its performance, and it is a significant factor in determining the success or failure of organizations over the coming decades. Different organizations have various cultural profiles. The simple way in which one organization differentiates itself from another is through Cultural differences. The construction clients as public and private organizations may have cultures within which they operate, and the identifications of these cultures are the focus of this paper. The research adopted Delphi technique in data collection, and 50 different types of cultures were administered to both public and private experts and consensus were determined using wilcoxon rank test in two numbers of rounds respectively and the decision rule of 70% was used. The 70% and above was used for retaining the cultures and below 70% was used for dropping the cultures. The result for private client organizational culture shows that Norm of work, Passive/defensive cultures, Bureaucratic Culture, Innovative Culture and Supportive culture were identified by the experts as private clients organizational culture, while the result for public client organizational culture were shows that Norm of Work, Task culture, Constructive culture, Passive/defensive cultures, Bureaucratic Culture, Innovative Culture and Supportive Culture were also identified by the experts as public clients organizational culture. The study identified the private and public clients organizational culture for the Nigerian Construction Industry.
